An MD Tier I REC represents one megawatt-hour (MWh) of renewable electricity generated from eligible Tier I sources in Maryland, such as wind, solar, geothermal, or qualifying biomass. Tier I RECs carry the highest compliance value under the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS).
